The Gruffalo

The tweenies and toddlers have been exploring the world of “The Gruffalo” at Nippers Nursery.

Art Activities

The toddlers have been making Gruffalo masks, using a range of colours to paint with, allowing the children to experiment with a range of tools to make different marks. The Tweenies used sponges on their feet to paint “The Gruffalo” footprints onto sheets of paper and used different material to make Gruffalo pictures.

Group Time

The tweenies sat together and read the Gruffalo then spoke about the different animals while the toddlers gathered in the story corner and enjoyed looking at The Gruffalo book with an adult.

Table Top Activities

The toddlers made Gruffalo spoons then put them on the table for the for the children to play with. We used different coloured paint to create the spoons and the children enjoyed banging the spoons together and trying to act out the story.

The tweenies created brown Gruffalos using paint, we added purple spikes for the “Purple prickles all over his back”.

Messy Play

The tweenies explored play-dough using different tools and used it to create their own Gruffalo.

The Toddlers cooked noodles and added green food colouring to create slimy snakes, they are learning about the animal world through stories, role play and real life experiences.

Outdoors

The toddlers went on a Gruffalo hunt in the “deep dark wood” and were looking out for the different animals in the story. While we never saw many snakes, foxes or owls the children did enjoy the the energetic outside play.

baking

The tweenies and the toddlers made biscuit, while the tweenies made scarf shaped bscuits then decorated them with coloured icing, the toddlers took turns in mixing and adding ingredients learning to take turns and share.  Next time we will make Gruffalo Crumble…
